Shot Analysis of 'SAW Trailer'

Here are 9 key screenshots of the trailer 'SAW'

I've chosen these screenshots because they're very simple but at the same time very significant in that trailer. These screenshots give us a ruff summary of the story, that contains action, thrill and horror all together in a very short clip. Through these 9 key shots we get a very vague introduction to different main characters and what role they're playing.

These screenshots are very inspirational because they're as I already said very simple but at the same time very significant. This trailer for example is something that would be possible for us to do without a high budget or any professional equipment.
The scenery alternates between very bright and very dark what makes it very scary at some point and very disturbing/confusing and that usually generates fear.

1. The first screenshot, going from top left to top right, is situated in a dark apartment, a young adult is standing in the corridor trying to find a way to turn the lights back on, because the electricity has been turned off.

2. The second screenshot represents a weird creature with a pig head / mask, that jumps out of the dark when the young man approaches. It is a very scary moment, even though it lasts for only a few seconds, that is as well very easy for us to imitate, because the only thing that is needed is a scary mask, that means not a lot of props or sfx are needed, good editing and filming will do the job.

3. Here is the first introduction to a man probably aged 25. We don't know what he's doing, where he is and who he is, even though his name is revealed.

4. A second man is introduced. He seems to be at the same location as the first man, his name is being revealed as well as well as his profession.
Both of the men are attached to a chain in the same room...

5. In the fifth screenshot we are being shown a newspaper article that talks about a killer, called "the Jigsaw Killer". It is a serial killer that has a very awkward method killing his victims, even though we are not really told how he kills his victims a few shots are shown that looks like one of his "traps".

6. Here, a detective is being introduced that is working on the "Jigsaw" case. He seems to be very clever and knows a lot about the "Jigsaw Killer".

7. After we've been introduced to the main characters the action comes up. In this screenshot we can see the first man going crazy and throwing something at a mirror. He's still in the same location as before, we can conclude that he is probably in captivity through the Jigsaw Killer, so he's trying to escape from this room.

8. Here's the second man, that is as well going crazy being locked in the same room as the first man. They both find a saw and try to figure out what to do with it, try to cut the chain through, but the second man thinks of cutting something else, but we don't know exactly what.

9. The final screenshot is the title. I think this title is perfect, matching the trailer and very scary. Even though there has been no blood or gore, we are very scared and shocked of the whole trailer. There are no special effects neither very specific location nor props.

Summary:
I think this trailer is doable and is very inspiring. A few good points are for example alternating between very bright and very dark environment and the fact that the editing has been done in a very specific way, building the tension up, that attains a very high thrilling point at the end. The main problem that we might encounter is filming in the night, it requires a special lense to be able to film at very low light, but I think we will manage to find a good solution to the problems we will encounter.
